Context
The Gateway is the University of Alberta's student paper, established in 1910 and run by the Gateway Student Journalism Society, a student-led not-for-profit organization. Issues are published in magazine format once a month in print during the academic year and content is published regularly online throughout the calendar year.

Process
Volunteering for the paper's illustration team, I had the opportunity to pick up briefs based on my own interests. These would involve working with the paper's Art Director to move the work in a suitable direction during the month prior to publication.
Concept
The illustrations shown here were done for two different issues of The Gateway: an introductory illustration for the December 2019 issue on mental health, and full-page illustrations for the March 2020 issue for Pride. Both works were selected for paper's 2020 Photo & Art Show.
